Music Review: Raastaman - Lucky Ali

Music & Lyrics: Lucky Ali

Lucky ali treads on familiar paths as in his previous albums. Although the songs are of various genres from Jazz to indi pop, its mostly the voice that you end up listening to! Listen to it if you have liked any of his songs in past. There is a very high probability that you will enjoy this one too

My pick: Saiyyaan and Yeh Zindagi

p.s. all the songs are free to download from the official website of the album www.raastaman.com

Music Review: London, Paris, New York

Music & Lyrics: Ali Zafar

If you would have seen the trailers of LPNY, there is a fresh feeling to it with two (relatively) new faces forming an (unusual) couple. And you get the same feeling is with the music album too. Ali zafar has been associated with some good albums in past and he does a pretty good job in his first assignment as lyrisict and music director for a Bollywood film. At no point of time will you find any similarity between his music and those of the anu maliks and vishal-shekhars and the pritams, which is such a relief! His tunes are melodious which stays with you for some time after hearing it. There are some seiously good tracks that you cannot afford to miss!

Rating: 3/5

My picks: Vo dekhney me, Thehree Si Zindagi and London Paris New York

Music Review: Kahaani

Music: Vishal-Shekhar
Lyrics: Vishal Dadlani, Anvita Dutt and Sandeep Srivasta

Off late, Vishal-Shekhar has made it a habit to make fantastic sounding albums and Kahaani is not an exception. All the songs in the track have something to look forward to and the resulting album as a whole is definitely worth a watch.

The album starts with a Aami Shotti Bolchi which has a rock-metal feel to it and mixes it up seamlessly with pop. The result is a typical mix of east and west which is sort of becoming trademark of the composers.Piya Tu Kaahe Rootha Re again is a mix of kawaali/sufi with bass guitar. For me, the pick of the album is Kahaani. It is sung beautifully by KK.

My picks: Kahaani

Music Review: Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana

Music: Amit Trivedi
Lyrics: Shellee

Its a predominantly "punjabi" album (something which I am not very fond of really :)) The only thing that made me even to think about this album is Amit Trivedi! He does bring in a lot of new sounds in this album too. But the songs are so entrenched in d flavour of punjab that u really have 2 have a liking for that kind of music. Unfortunately, I do not :). As a result, I did not really enjoy the music much overall. Having said that, there are two songs which does demand attention. Its a kind of "soft rock" which have a nice rhythm 2 it. Definitely recommended. Remaining songs u can give a miss

Rating: 2.5/5
My Picks: Motorwada, Luni Hasi (both male and female versions)

Music Review: David

Music: Prashant Pillai, Amar Mohile, Ranjit Barot, and Anupam Roy
Lyrics: K. S. Krishnan, Sanjeev Sharma, Colin Terence, Abhishek, and Shradha

After Shaitan, Bejoy Nambiar is back with hos next flick, David. Having seen Shaitan and loved his music, one expects even better things in David. And the album surely does not disappoint.

As with Shaitan, this album also is a collaborative effort of as many as four musicians and five lyricists. The arrangement of having multiple as composers and lyricists worked perfectly in Shaitan and it works equally well in David. I think the idea of having more than one music directors  brings a certain diversity in the songs, which is refreshing. (You cannot help but wonder how do these unknown names come up with so many good songs. May be, they are unknown only in bollywood music circle, which is my area of expertise)

Nevertheless, the album is a balanced one where you have many songs with a slow, melodious tones, few fast paced ones and few remixes (with are probably better than the originals) The voices are new and refreshing and there is a high probability that they will "stick" to you ears for days to come. Songs with a distinct Goan flavor, which are not really my taste, such as "Maria Pitache" and Out of Control are soulful. If you prefer some hard rock, then you have Tore Matware Naina, Bandhay & Three Kills for you. If you are a fan of romantic songs, you have Tere Mere Pyaar Ki, Yun Hi Re going for you. Special mention must be made for Damadum mast kalandar. The song, in various forms, has ben extensively used earlier but it is commendable that they have come up with not just one but two versions of it which are both really good. You really need to have some creativity to re-invent such an old song while keeping listeners interested. Overall, the album has something for every kind of music lover and hence very likely to appeal to many.

Rating: 5/5

My picks: Mast Kalandar (Both versions) & Out of control
