After Shaitan, Bejoy Nambiar is back with hos next flick, David. Having seen Shaitan and loved his music, one expects even better things in David. And the album surely does not disappoint.
As with Shaitan, this album also is a collaborative effort of as many as four musicians and five lyricists. The arrangement of having multiple as composers and lyricists worked perfectly in Shaitan and it works equally well in David. I think the idea of having more than one music directors brings a certain diversity in the songs, which is refreshing. (You cannot help but wonder how do these unknown names come up with so many good songs. May be, they are unknown only in bollywood music circle, which is my area of expertise)
Nevertheless, the album is a balanced one where you have many songs with a slow, melodious tones, few fast paced ones and few remixes (with are probably better than the originals) The voices are new and refreshing and there is a high probability that they will "stick" to you ears for days to come. Songs with a distinct Goan flavor, which are not really my taste, such as "Maria Pitache" and Out of Control are soulful. If you prefer some hard rock, then you have Tore Matware Naina, Bandhay & Three Kills for you. If you are a fan of romantic songs, you have Tere Mere Pyaar Ki, Yun Hi Re going for you. Special mention must be made for Damadum mast kalandar. The song, in various forms, has ben extensively used earlier but it is commendable that they have come up with not just one but two versions of it which are both really good. You really need to have some creativity to re-invent such an old song while keeping listeners interested. Overall, the album has something for every kind of music lover and hence very likely to appeal to many.
Rating: 5/5
My picks: Mast Kalandar (Both versions) & Out of control
