Music Review: Talaash

After a hugely successful outing with Delhi Belly, Ram Sampath returns with Talaash, this time pairing up with Javed Akhtar. Since this album comes right after Delhi Belly, it won't be completely illogical to have huge expectations from him this time round.

"Mysterious" is the word that comes to my mind when I think of describing the music of Talaash. There is an aura of mystery around all the songs of the album which makes all the songs sound very similar to each other. So much so that if you play all the songs one after the other, it is easy to miss the transition between two songs!

Nevertheless, the music is soft and soothing. You tend to get a feeling that it lacks in versatility in sound as well as voices, but it does holds on its own with its limited variety. I get a feeling that it will go well with a film of this genre.

Music Review: Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Lyrics: Gulzar

When two legends of their respective fields come together, you expect nothing but greatness. 

With Jab Tak Hai Jaan, A R Rahman dabbles into a pure romantic (read: Yash Chopra) genre (if there is anything like that :)) where Gulzar is an old player. The songs are fresh, voices new and tunes unheard previously. As with all A R Rahman albums, they are not the ones which will immediately give you a kick. But I am willing to bet that they will grow on to you with time. So sit back, relax and enjoy!

A special mention must be made for the Jab Tak Hai Jaan - The Poem, its an innovative style of mixing poetry and music, something you can expect from ARR.

Music Review: English Vinglish

If its Amit Trivedi, you have to pay attention to it. He has created some of the better albums of recent times and is someone to who has shown a lot of promise.

In English Vinglish, Amit Trivedi teams up with Swanand Kirkire, one of few writers who still prefer meaningful poetry. Together, they have come up with an album that has pretty interesting tunes in it and which is definitely a must have in your songs collection.
