Music Review: Cocktail

After a series of mediocrities a good album has been long due from Pritam. Does he succeed to deliver that in Cocktail? Read on...

The thing about this album that stands out is that although many songs have a punch in them, they are have a nice rhythm to them and as a reason are really soothing to you ears.

As pretty evident from the trailors, Tumhi ho Bandhu, characterized by Neeraj's husky voice, and Daaru desi are the most "rhythmic" songs of the lot. A special mention must be made for Yaarian (both versions). These are songs that have the potential to stick to your mind for a long time. Second hand Jaawani is forgettable while tere Naam Japdi Phiran is a typical disco number. Then comes Luttna, whose both versions alternate beautifully between a slow-paced-poetry and the high-on-bass parts, that demands your attention. Jugni is a pepped up version of famous song from Coke Studio which is definitely one of the better versions of original.

Cocktail showed a lot of potential and the album, as a whole, does manage to held on to the hype created through promos. All and all, the album sores high on diversity and newness and Pritam does succed in getting it right this time. A sure buy for any bollywood music enthusiast :)

Rating: 4/5
My Picks: Yaarian, Daaru Desi
